Davis
I wanted to take the time to say thank you to the Davis City Council for extending its support to the animals without owners in our community. Exploring options of spay/neuter is a must to control the sheer numbers of unwanted animals. The council did an amazing job addressing the current contract with Yolo County and community concerns.
It is a norm to evaluate conditions/services and billable tracking of area needs that are contracted out to other agencies. I understand also the gentle/well-chosen tone in offering support to not offend the efforts and work the agency is offering.
There are many grants offered to shelters that support a community with a population over 100,000 (Yolo County is just below 200,000); to be qualified, we have to make statistics public, we need to take advantage of all the available funds.
It is also a way for the community to see the numbers of displaced animals and get involved with volunteering or with financial support programs like buying a brick.
I am very proud that Davis cares not only for the animals in its back yard but the welfare of animals in our greater community. Thank you, Davis City Council, and all area animal welfare advocates, rescues, fosters, volunteers and staff for taking steps to bring progressive animal welfare programs to our area!
