Davis
I am a candidate running for one of the open positions on the board of the Davis Food Co-op. I am a longtime member of this wonderful community institution, having first become a DFC shareholder in 1983.
A local group known as Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions attempted to place a resolution on the Davis Food Co-op ballot requiring the Co-op to divest itself of all interactions with the state of Israel and to boycott all Israeli products. This attempt was opposed by a concerted effort of the Davis interfaith community, of which I am a part.
The Davis Food Co-op board unanimously rejected placing the boycott resolution on the May ballot on the grounds that it was neither lawful nor proper. The board cited many precedents in rendering its decision. It ruled the petition would be detrimental to the Co-opÕs business operations and divisive to the congenial atmosphere that is so much a part of the ambience and economic success of the Co-op.
I support the board for its courageous and sensible decision-making, and applaud its efforts to champion the cause of civility and decency.
My name did not appear on the early ballots mailed to all members on April 30 due to late filing. If you are a Davis Food Co-op member, you can vote for me either by writing in my name on the older ballots that you received or by picking up a new ballot inside the Co-op with my name, ÒFranklin Fox,Ó printed on it. If as a voter you were unaware that I was running when you first voted, you may vote again by invalidating your first ballot and revoting.
The Co-op board election is going on right now and will continue until May 28. Please read my campaign statement posted in the store and on the DFC website and the Wiki site. I will also be campaigning outside the DFC in the coming days and weeks would love to chat with you personally. I would appreciate your support.
