Here in California and locally, the attitudes among our elected officials are dominated by an excessive tax-and-spend philosophy. This is apparent by the excessive number of state and local bond measures and special tax ballot measures placed there by various governmental entities year after year.
This philosophy of governance is influenced by the myth that the expansion of the government bureaucracy is a solution to providing greater responsiveness to responding to societyÕs needs and solving problems. But realistically, that hasnÕt been the case in most situations and is unlikely to be in the future.
In contrast, these actions have placed California with the highest rate of bonded indebtedness along with the highest sales tax rate of any other state in the country at a time when the unemployment rate here is at 12.4 percent, which is the third highest rate of any state nationally.
This situation just encourages excessive government spending and an oppressive rise in the cost of living situation for taxpayers. The Democratic Party is the leading advocate of this excessive and oppressive tax-and-spend philosophy of governance involving the taxpayers.
But there is the alternative Republican Party ticket of candidates to vote for in Yolo County. Therefore, voters should seriously consider to vote for a change to elect Republicans to offices in federal, state and local levels of government.
Examples are Carly Fiorina for the U.S. Senate, Meg Whitman for governor, Loren Hanks for Congress and Michelle Connor for Assembly. Also, please examine the platform of Davis school board candidate Mike Nolan despite all of those letters published recently in this newspaper that ÒgrandstandÓ in support of the Democratic Party-led government establishment to the contrary.
