National flatpicking guitar champion Robin Kessinger will be joined by his musical partner, singer/songwriter Kate Long, for a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday at the historic Schmeiser Barn, 35125 County Road 31 (four miles west of Lake Boulevard), Davis.
The event is co-sponsored by Barnyard Theatre and the UC Davis Friends of Acoustic Music, and will be the final show of this seasonÕs Acoustic Music Festival.
Kessinger is familiar to Davis audiences, having played at the Schmeiser Barn for each of the last three years, but this will be LongÕs debut Davis performance. The duo will play a blend of Appalachian, bluegrass and traditional American music, along with some of LongÕs original compositions.
He and his musical family were the subject of a BBC documentary.
Long has performed at the International Storytelling Center, the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, and the South Florida Folk Festival, among others, and has taught at Augusta, Swannanoa and various other camps. Her songs have taken honors at IBMA, Merlefest and the South Florida Folk Festival.
Long also is an award-winning journalist who tackles tough subjects such as (most recently) predatory mortgage loans.
Tickets for SaturdayÕs performance, at $15, can be reserved by calling (530) 752-1958 or e-mailing [email protected]
Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.
