Jesse ÒChuchoÓ Otero passed away peacefully at home on June 13 surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Bogota, Colombia, on Feb. 8, 1934.
Being the oldest of 10 children, he was sent to England to pursue higher education. Returning to Colombia, he taught for several years before coming to the United States to study and work, first in the Bay Area, and then he moved to Davis in the early Õ70s. For more than 25 years, he worked as a social worker at Alta California Regional Center in Woodland where he made life-long friends.
After retiring, he enjoyed painting, gardening and playing with his grandchildren. He was loved by all who knew him for his charming personality and easy going nature.
He is survived by his wife, Kristina, and children and their spouses: Mark and Kristen Shaffer, and Caroline and Paul Peretti; and grandchildren: Sofia and John Claude Shaffer, and Michael and Nicholas Peretti. He also is survived by a large extended family in Colombia.
Memorial services are planned at 11 a.m. Friday, June 18, at St. James Church.
