While we take our system of government for granted and many of us ignore voting, many people around the world dream of having a system like ours.
Midterm elections usually have a low turnout, but many important offices and issues need your attention. Mike Thompson, Mariko Yamada, John Chiang, Betty Yee and Bill Lockyer performed with distinction and earned our votes. The excellence of Dave JonesÕ service as a California Assembly member and Sacramento City Council member, and his continuous stand for the people against the unfair practices of the insurance companies, makes him the best candidate for insurance commissioner.
Our governing school members (Tim Taylor, Sheila Allen and Gina Daleiden) were tested by difficult decisions. I hope they, along with the teachers, manage to keep the schools open all the time. They deserve our votes for re-election.
If you want to keep air pollution under control, vote no on Prop. 23. The two-thirds majority approval of the budget in California gave the minority in the Assembly the power to hold the majority hostage and delayed the development of budget approval by more than three months. A yes vote on Prop. 25 will simplify the process. It would make the approval possible by simple majority, which is similar to most other states.
The election is just around the corner. Our system of government depend on our votes.
