Davis
I appreciate the 1,187 people who voted for me. Whether for my community activism, or outspokenness, or the scientific challenge presented by the Viable System Model, I thank you for supporting me.
I did not collect or spend any money, but I was buoyed by the support and caring of many people in Davis, as is reflected in the final vote. Based on post-election comments, if we had choice voting, my votes would have gone 500 for Joe Krovoza, 500 for Rochelle Swanson and 200 for Sydney Vergis, so my participation did not affect the outcome.
My campaign was a social adventure. Trying to explain unusual ideas to individuals and different public audiences was a challenge. All the audiences gave me a respectful listen, and that is worth a lot.
Enterprise reporter Crystal Lee did an outstanding job of thinking through the VSM material, and presenting new ideas cogently. This is a new way of thinking, in the present-future, and a new set of tools, and Lee figured out the beginning of the introduction.
David GreenwaldÕs Vanguard blog provided an ongoing forum that was widely used.
Democracy is not a spectator sport. Don Saylor will be mayor for the next six months. Then Stephen Souza should be mayor for the completion of this new term, with Joe Krovoza mayor pro tem throughout Ñ and Swanson de facto mayor much as Ruth Asmundson was when Susie Boyd was mayor, with Krovoza and Swanson integrating new people into the process.
As a scientist, I am always open to new information, or another way of looking at something. I change my mind when it matters; I think that is part of history Ñ re-thinking the set of circumstances in a unique situation leading to that particular outcome. Given what we know now, how can our situation be improved?
Thank you for paying attention to what I have to say.
