Davis police announced Thursday the arrest of a former First Northern Bank loan officer last week on suspicion of embezzling more than $30,000 from the bank\’s Davis branch.
\n
Kathleen Kolb, 35, of Davis, surrendered to police on Dec. 27 and was booked at the Yolo County Jail on felony charges of embezzlement by employee, forgery, grand theft and identity theft, according to Lt. Paul Doroshov.
\n
Kolb, who has been dismissed from her position at the bank, 434 Second St., could not be reached for comment Thursday. Free on bail, she is expected to be arraigned Jan. 27 in Yolo Superior Court.
\n
Doroshov said the investigation into Kolb\’s alleged activities began on Nov. 19, when officials from First Northern Bank of Dixon reported that they suspected her of committing a series of unauthorized account withdrawals.
\n
The investigation revealed that Kolb had made 14 fraudulent transactions, totaling about $31,000, between November 2007 and October 2010, Doroshov said.
\n
“She was basically moving money from other First Northern Bank accounts to accounts that she had control over,” Doroshov said. Some funds allegedly were taken from the bank\’s internal accounts, while others came from open lines of credit.
\n
Doroshov said the amounts taken ranged from “a couple hundred dollars to a few thousand.” In addition to the bank itself, the alleged fraudulent withdrawals affected four customers.
\n
Roy Yarbrough, vice president/general auditor at First Northern Bank\’s Dixon headquarters, declined Thursday to comment on Kolb\’s arrest.
\n
“It\’s the bank\’s policy to not discuss matters that are in the courts,” Yarbrough said. However, he did confirm that the affected accounts have been reimbursed by the bank.
\n
“All of our customers have been made whole,” he said.
\n
No additional arrests are anticipated in the case, Doroshov said.
\n
“There\’s no evidence that anyone else was involved or assisted her in any way,” he said.
