Applications for the 2011 city of Davis Art Contract Program are available at City HallÕs Community Services Department, 23 Russell Blvd.
The program provides funds for a wide variety of community-based arts programs and projects that foster excellence, diversity and vitality in the arts.
Projects need not be large in scope; the city also welcomes small projects that can make a difference in their field.
Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15.

Monthly meeting by photography club
The Photo Club of Davis will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hallmark InnÕs Sequoia Conference Room, 110 F St., Davis.
Guest speaker Ian Kennedy will give a talk titled ÒImages Deep Down: Ocean Photography.Ó Kennedy will explain how underwater imaging helps the world understand the degree to which EarthÕs oceans are imperiled by overfishing and pollution.

One-woman play opens at UC Davis
The UC Davis theater and dance department production of ÒTilly No-Body: Catastrophes of LoveÓ opens Thursday and runs until Oct. 24 at the Mondavi CenterÕs Vanderhoef Theater.
Curtain times are 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays.
The play follows the tumbling thoughts of Tilly Wedekind, wife and muse of the German playwright Frank Wedekind.

Poignant biopic screens at I-House
A screening of ÒThe Diving Bell and the ButterflyÓ will take place Friday evening at International House, 10 College Park, Davis.
This screening is part of the ongoing International Film Series, cosponsored by the United Nations Association of Davis and International House.
Director Julian SchnabelÕs 2007 fact-based drama stars Mathieu Amalric as Jean-Dominique Bauby, who suffered a massive stroke in 1995 that left him able only to blink with one eye; despite this handicap, Bauby subsequently ÒdictatedÓ a lengthy memoir.
The public is invited for refreshments at 7:30 p.m., and the film will start promptly at 8 p.m. The screening is free, but donations are welcome.

Who will become the Davis Community Idol?
The second annual Davis Community Idol Òsing-offÓ will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday at Davis High SchoolÕs Brunelle Performance Hall, 315 W. 14th St.
Local talents will take the stage to perform their favorite tunes, while competing to win cash prizes.
DHS alum Evan Monheit, now a successful pop composer who lives in Los Angeles and scores film and TV projects, will serve as one of the judges. Audience members will vote on the ÒpeopleÕs choiceÓ winner.
Advance tickets, at $6, are available at Watermelon Music, 207 E St., Davis. Tickets at the door will be $8. The event is a fundraiser for the DHS Advanced Treble Choir, which also will perform Saturday evening.
