BRIEFS: Good food, music at Dixon cook-off

DixonÕs ÒGrillinÕ and ChillinÕ Rib and Chili Cook-off and Car ShowÓ will take place on the cityÕs downtown streets Saturday.

Pride Gymnastics of Dixon will open the main stage entertainment with dance routines at 10:15 a.m., and the country-western bands Gun Shy and 48 Straight will perform (respectively) at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The dayÕs headliner will be the country band Whiskey Dawn, which recently opened for Faith Hill at the Ironstone Amphitheater in Murphys.

Gallery 1855 hosts photography show

Works by members of the Photography Club of Davis will be featured during AugustÕs exhibit at Gallery 1855, at the Davis Cemetery district office, 820 Pole Line Road.

The exhibit opens Sunday and continues through Aug. 31. A reception will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8.

The show will feature photographs by Samar Alassaad, Crilly Butler, Mark Castellucci, Joe Finkleman, Kevin OÕConnor, Bob Sahara, Jerry Schimke and George Tchobanoglous.

Joint exhibit by West Sac couple

A joint exhibition of paintings, sculpture and prints by West SacramentoÕs Joseph Bellacera and Paula Wenzl Bellacera opens Sunday and continues through Aug. 27 at the County Administration BuildingÕs Gallery 625, 625 Court St., Woodland.

An artistsÕ reception will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, as part of WoodlandÕs First Friday Art Walk.

ÔScoundrelsÕ take Music Circus stage

ÒDirty Rotten ScoundrelsÓ will continue this summerÕs Music Circus season, with a run that opens Tuesday and continues through Sunday, Aug. 8, at the Music Circus, 1419 H St., Sacramento.

The musical comedy is adapted from the 1988 film that concerned two charming con men on the French Riviera, and their competition to swindle a young American woman.

Curtain times are 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 2 p.m. Thursday and Saturday, and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets, ranging from $41 to $53, are available at (800) 225-2277 and (916) 557-1999.

Poetry Night returns to Bistro 33

Nevada City poet Molly Fisk will headline this weekÕs Poetry Night, taking place at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bistro 33, 226 F St., Davis.

Fisk is the author of ÒListening to Winter,Ó ÒThe More Difficult BeautyÓ and the letterpress chapbook ÒSalt Water Poems.Ó

An open-microphone session will follow FiskÕs presentation.

Poetry Night takes place on the first Wednesday and third Thursday of each month. For additional information, call (530) 756-4556.
