The Friends Committee on Legislation is a nonprofit Òlobby of conscienceÓ established by Quakers in 1952 that works to bring more compassion and social justice into government by influencing law-making in the state Capitol.

ChildrenÕs book author Annie J. King will present her new book, ÒGranny Annie Lives at the Airport,Ó at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at The Avid Reader, 617 Second St. in downtown Davis.
King, a West Sacramento resident, is a professor in the UC Davis department of animal science. She has a bachelorÕs degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and a masterÕs degree and Ph.D. from North Carolina State University.

Support displaced women on Saturday
A benefit dinner for the Displaced Women in Choco, Colombia, runs from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Davis Community Church, 412 C St., Davis.

United Nations party planned at I-House
The public is invited to a celebration of the 65th anniversary of the United Nations from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at International House, 10 College Park. The event is hosted by the Davis chapter of the United Nations Association.
A panel of seven experts will present a progress report on the U.N.Õs millennium development goals and discuss the challenges that remain to achieving a significant reduction in extreme poverty and hunger around the world by 2015.
