A 17-year-old Davis boy is in custody on suspicion of robbing another teen, Davis police said Wednesday.

Lt. Paul Doroshov said the suspect, whose name was not released because he is a minor, is believed to have assaulted the 16-year-old victim and robbed him of his iPod on Dec. 10 at the Windmere Apartments, 3030 Fifth St.
\n
The two teens are familiar with one another, Doroshov said. The suspect was arrested Tuesday in Orangevale and lodged at Yolo County Juvenile Hall on the robbery charge.

UCD e-mail shut down for upgrades

UC Davis e-mail, student fee collection and other computer services will be shut down for up to 48 hours starting at 7 a.m. Sunday.
\n
Services hosted by the Davis Campus Data Center are being shut down during an upgrade of the center\’s power system, according to the campus\’ Dateline publication.
\n
Campus officials are urging that fees be paid before the service interruption as the shutdown could extend until Monday, when winter quarter fees are due.
\n
Some UCD websites, including the campus home page and environmental control alarms, for the safety of research animals, will stay up and running, because they are on servers not located at the center.
\n

Chamber dinner tickets on sale now

The Davis Chamber of Commerce plans its 106th installation and annual dinner on Friday, Jan. 21, at the ARC at UC Davis.

Cary Arnold will be installed as chair of the 2011 Chamber board of directors. The Brinley and Covell awards also will be presented to Davis residents honored for their community service.

No-host, classic \’60s cocktails begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and award presentations at 7 p.m.

Individual tickets are $70 before Jan. 1 and $75 after that date. No tickets will be sold at the door. Sponsorships are available.

Soup \’n\’ Song begins the new year with lunch and fellowship on Tuesday, Jan. 4, then an hour of singing “the oldies” around the piano with David Deffner, director of music at the Davis Community Church.

The group also will sing Christmas carols, to bid farewell to the holiday season.

Children and families are invited to visit the UC Davis Arboretum for an outdoor reading program exploring the natural and cultural world of the Middle East. Discover the diversity of oaks through hands-on activities. All ages are welcome.

The free program will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, at the Arboretum Gazebo on Garrod Drive.
