The Davis Food Co-op is seeking help with its 25th annual Holiday Meal, a free dinner offered to all on Christmas Eve. The meal will be served from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, at the Veterans\’ Memorial Center, 203 E. 14th St.
\n
More than 800 people — including students, senior citizens and people who are far away from their families — are expected to attend.
\n
The meal is served with the support of donations from individuals, community groups, businesses, Co-op suppliers and shoppers, and guests.
\n
Both traditional and vegan menus are offered, and everyone is welcome to attend.
\n
Local residents who would like to help with the meal can take advantage of several options. Donations of wrapped candy, nuts in the shell, 10-by-10-inch fabric squares and ribbon are needed to make gift bags for guests. Donations may be dropped off at the Co-op Demo Station, 620 G St., during regular store hours, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
\n
Cash donations help support both the meal and hunger-based charities in Yolo County. Donations may be made payable to the 25th Annual Holiday Meal and dropped off at the store, or mailed to The Davis Food Co-op Holiday Meal, 620 G St., Davis CA 95616.
\n
Volunteers donate more than 160 hours of labor on the day of the meal. To volunteer, stop by the Co-op and use the “Volunteer Sign-Up Book” to find a slot that suits you. Volunteer appointments will not be made by telephone.
