WOODLAND — Kansas comes to Yolo County on Friday when the Woodland Opera House — in conjunction with underwriters Kevin and Lorie Haarberg and Roger and Judy Kohlmeier — presents “The Wizard of Oz.”
\n
The musical opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday and plays weekends through Feb. 20.
\n
Travel with Dorothy Gale of Kansas (Danielle Hansen) and her little dog, Toto (Bella) somewhere over the rainbow and down the yellow brick road as they journey through Oz in this L. Frank Baum classic tale.
\n
The story is familiar, but timeless…
\n
After a tornado whisks her away to Munchkinland, Dorothy meets the Good Witch of the North, (Glinda, played by
\n
Angela Frost Baltezore) who sends her on a journey down the yellow brick road to find the wonderful Wizard of Oz (James Glica-Hernandez). It\’s believed the wonderful Wizard can help Dorothy get home.
\n
Along the way she finds new friends — the Scarecrow (Matthew Kohrt), the Tin Woodsman (Eric Alley) and the Cowardly Lion (Erik Catalan). Together they find themselves in need of the Wizard, but for very different reasons. Dorothy needs that ticket home, but a brain would be nice for the Scarecrow, a heart would be cool for the Tin Woodsman and what\’s a lion without courage?
\n
But to get to the Wizard, they have to avoid the evil clutches of the Wicked Witch of the West (Patricia Glass).
\n
All of the favorite songs from the famous 1939 MGM movie including “Over the Rainbow” and “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead” are in this Royal Shakespeare Company
\n
version.
\n
