Yolo County\’s “Avoid the 8” DUI task force will conduct a sobriety and driver\’s-license checkpoint tonight in the city of Davis.

The exact location of the checkpoint, which will run from 7 p.m. today to 3 a.m. Friday, is expected to be released later today.

In addition to the checkpoint, the task force will deploy extra DUI saturation patrols Friday night in the cities of Woodland and West Sacramento. Saturday night will bring more patrols in the city of Winters and in unincorporated Yolo County.

All regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will focus efforts at stopping and arresting DUI drivers during their normal shifts, said Davis police Sgt. Rod Rifredi, coordinator of the task force. The CHP is expected to deploy all available officers for their maximum enforcement period during the holiday weekend. Motorists are encouraged to report suspected drunken drivers by calling 911.
