The school board has faced very challenging budgets in the past three years, which have large implications for the children in our schools. The biggest unresolved issues center around the current $4.5million structural deficit: when and how to run a new parcel tax and whether to structure the tax to decrease when the state eventually restores the money it owes to the district as required by law and the state constitution (under Proposition 98).
Mike Nolan has a refreshingly simple plan: save money whenever possible (for example, avoiding employee raises when we are already in the red), find out how much is needed to restore programs, put a parcel tax before the voters as soon as possible, and require a reduction of this new tax when the state money owed to the district returns.
Mike has a history of volunteering in the schools on PTAs and Site Councils and is focused on the experience of the kids, including the four of this own. I have known Mike for many years and encourage you to join me in voting for Mike Nolan for school board.
