In a letter to The Davis Enterprise dated March 28, titled ÒWhat would they know of peace?Ó writer Noreen B. Mazelis makes some statements that require my response.
Statement: ÒTo date the BDSersÕ (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) most secure beachhead in Davis is the Friends Meeting House, which also serves a similar function for Ô9/11 Truthers.Õ Ó
Response: Two of the leaders of the BDS requested permission to use the Meetinghouse to show a film about the history of the Palestine and Israeli tensions and the deleterious effects on Palestinian people, and to explain the aims and purposes of BDS with respect to the Davis Co-op.
The request was approved by the Meetinghouse calendar clerk; I also am quite certain the policies and criteria for use by outside groups would have approved use by a group opposed to the BDS.
Statement: Ò… which also serves a similar function (beachhead) for Ô9/11 Truthers.Õ Ó
Response: To my almost certain knowledge, the individuals in Davis who are involved with the 9/11 Truth movement have never applied for permission to use the Meetinghouse. I am certain that members and attendees of Davis Friends Meeting cannot be even remotely described as a ÒbeachheadÓ of, or for, the Ò9/11 Truthers.Ó
Statement: ÒThis is to be expected because Ted Neff, the clerk of the Davis Meeting, is a Ô9/11 troofer.Õ Ó
Response: I am not the clerk (chairperson) of Davis Friends Meeting. I have been clerk in years past. At present, I am a member of the Peace and Social Concerns Committee.
With reference to Òis a Ôtroofer,Õ Ó I attended two meetings on the UC Davis campus of the local sponsors of the 9/11 Truth Movement. At both meetings I was troubled by some of the evidence presented by a number of eminent engineers, scientists, architects and others. Toward the end of the second meeting the chairperson asked for a raising of hands of those who believed9Ú11 was an Òinside job.Ó I did not raise my hand. However, I feel some unrest that the 9/11 Commission was not provided full information about all the details surrounding this tragic event, and that I hope a new commission will be convened.
