Helen Thomson will celebrate her 36-year political career Saturday, Dec. 4, and shes inviting the community to join her.

The \”lifetime celebration\” is from 5:30 to about 9 p.m. at Freeborn Hall on the UC Davis campus. It will start with a cocktail reception and follow with a buffet dinner and a \”career achievement celebration.\”
\n
Thomson started her political career in 1974 when voters elected her to the Davis Board of Education, where she served 12 years.
\n
She then served three terms representing Davis on the Yolo County Board of Supervisors from 1986 to 1996.
\n
Before finishing the third term, however, she won the 8th District seat to the state Assembly, where she served for six years. Thomson served as the majority floor whip and assistant speaker pro tem, authoring 81 bills signed into law by both Democratic and Republican governors, according to a news release.

After she was termed out in Sacramento in 2002, she was again elected to the county Board of Supervisors, and was re-elected without opposition in 2006. She will retire when her term ends in January.

Tickets for the Dec. 4 event are $45, with profits going to the Helen M. Thomson Scholarship for Nursing Leadership at the UC Davis Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing.
