The Davis Diamonds gymnastics had a group of 26 athletes compete in the annual River City Classic Ñ a Junior Olympic Event Ñ in Elk Grove last weekend, snagging team bronze medals in both level 4 and 5.
Alana Curtis and Megan Devine also won individual level 5 events, while Isabella Franke placed second on bars.
In the older level 5 division, Kalysta Holder finished fourth all-around, placing in the top 10 on every event and fifth place on both vault and floor. Mo Roeckl-Navazio vaulted a powerful front handspring for seventh-place 8.45 to take 11th all-around.
In a very competitive intermediate age division, Franke took home a silver medal on bars with a 9.0. She also improved to 8.475 for her floor exercise in just her second gymnastics competition ever and placed sixth all-around.
Teammate Kate Miller placed seventh on beam and eighth on bars and floor, to finishing eighth all-around. Scotlyn MacDonald took tenth all-around, while Aubrey Lee-Smith nailed the beam routine (8.85) for a bronze on that event and an 11th all-around.
Among the youngest level 5 gymnasts, Lily Heilman did a strong handspring vault to finish in eighth, and placed 10th all-around. Madison Johnson improved on every event and got 16th all-around, while Kyra Mayfield and Colleen Peterson continued to gain experience in level 5 competition.
Among the older level 4 gymnasts, Devine won vault with a strong 9.175 and placed sixth on floor to tumble to a total of 34.35, placing her ninth all-around. Right behind was Hallie Lassiter with 9.1 (fourth) on vault and seventh on beam to place 11th all-around.
In her first gymnastics competition, Kadence Waggoner won the bronze medal on vault, placed ninth on bars and 12th all-around, while Sarah Farrell vaulted to seventh place and finished 15th all-around.
Mary Beth Baker was eighth on bars, ninth on floor, and 13th all-around and Isabella Giannetti was ninth on beam to finish 14th all-around.
In the intermediate age division, Curtis won vault with a 9.2 and placed fourth on bars to finish seventh all-around.
Ianthe Pretorius had 10th-place finishes on vault and beam to finish ninth all-around, while Sonia Sutton was seventh on floor, and ninth on vault and bars, to take 11th all-around.
Regan Miller was eighth on vault, ninth on bars and 13th all-around. Annie Oberholtzer placed a strong eighth on bars to finish 14th all-around.
Among the youngest gymnasts, Trinity Scott produced top 10 performances on every event, including a bronze for her vault. She placed fourth on floor and sixth all-around. Right behind was Mariska Pretorius with a sensational first meet, placing fifth on floor and seventh all-around.
Taylor Scott and Brenna Peterson continued to improve and gain valuable experience in level 4, as they helped the team win the vault event and place third overall.
On Saturday, the Davis Diamonds will celebrate National Gymnastics Day with free exhibitions in Central Park during the Davis FarmersÕ Market between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. as well as holding its free annual open house. Lacrosse clinics
Join the Davis Lacrosse Association this Sunday or Sunday, Sept. 26, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Northstar Park for a fun introduction to lacrosse for boys and girls in grades 2 through 8.
The clinic is free and no equipment is required, just bring water and wear comfortable clothing.

Lacrosse camp
The Davis Lacrosse Association will offer its annual Fall Ball lacrosse camp for boys in grades 2 to 12, from beginners to advanced players.
Fall Ball is an opportunity to try out the fastest-growing team sport in Northern California or hone skills for the next season.
The boys Fall Ball will take place on Thursdays and Sundays from Sept. 30 through Nov. 21 in Davis, while the girls will go Wednesdays and Sundays from Sept. 29 through Nov. 21.
