The Linux Users Group of Davis will host a presentation by Oliver Kreylos of UC Davis on Monday, Dec. 20.
\n
Kreylos is known for his recent videos on YouTube demonstrating the use of Xbox 360 Kinect, Playstation Move and Nintendo Wiimote devices to create and interact in three-dimensional environments.
\n
The combination of these devices, which all reached market at the same time, enables fundamentally different ways of interacting with computers, previously limited to well-funded research labs and science-fiction movies.
\n
In this talk, Kreylos will show examples of such natural user interfaces employed at UCD\’s W.M. Keck Center for Active Visualization in the Earth Sciences, explore how they work, and how the combination of entertainment hardware and free, GNU/Linux-based software can recreate them in the living room.
\n
The talk, which is free and open to the public, will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Explorit Nature Center, 3141 Fifth St. in Davis. No RSVP is necessary.
