Adults can begin on string instruments, too

Adult students who would like to learn to play a string instrument may be interested in a new class that will begin at the Davis Art Center on Tuesday.

Local instructor Sue MacDonald will offer “Strings for Adult Beginners,” meeting twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) through Oct. 13. A second class will run from Oct. 18-Nov. 17 for students who want to continue into the fall.

“You do not have to know how to read music to take this class,” MacDonald said. “It is geared toward true beginners who have never played a stringed instrument. You will exercise your brain, have fun and learn to play an instrument faster than you thought possible — as long as you practice. It isn’t too late.”

Students need to provide their own instrument, as well as a music stand and a book. Guidelines and a materials list are available at the Davis Art Center office. There is a $120-$130 fee for the class.
