Advanced Treble Choir performs Saturday

By March 21, 2011

Get ready to put yourself in a New York state of mind: The Advanced Treble Choir from Davis High School will give Davis audiences a chance to hear the wide range of music the choir will sing on its upcoming trip to New York City.

The concert takes place at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Natsoulas Gallery, 521 First St. in downtown Davis. The songs will range from classical music by DesPres and Palestrina to the pop hits of Smokey Robinson.

The 45-minute concert will be followed by a silent auction and refreshments. Tickets are $22 in advance and $25 at the door. For more information about tickets, email [email protected]

The event is a fundraiser that will help pay for the choir’s trip to New York City, where the members will perform and work with some of the top musicians in the world, including the assistant conductor of the Metropolitan Opera and a conductor from Juilliard. Besides performing, choir members will watch some Broadway plays and learn about careers in music.

“The girls will be able to immerse themselves in so many different genres — opera, musicals, sacred music — and all with the help of professionals from New York,” said choir director Karen Gardias.
