By From page A9 | February 15, 2012

Veteran bandleader and multi-Grammy winner Chucho Valdés will bring his band — the Afro-Cuban Messengers — to the Mondavi Center’s Jackson Hall at 8 p.m. Saturday. Dubbed “the dean of Latin jazz”  by The New York Times, Valdés has recorded more than 80 CDs during his long career, and has worked with a host of jazz luminaries over the decades. There will be a pre-concert talk at 7 p.m. by Raúl Fernández, a professor in the School of Social Sciences at UC Irvine. Concert tickets are $25-$49 general, $12.50-$24.50 students, available at www.mondaviarts.org or (530) 754-2787. Courtesy photo
