Just in time for cool, autumn weather and anticipating the holidays, 11 fiber artists bring their most beautiful creations to The Artery gallery for a show titled “Comfort and Joy: A Celebration of Fiber Art.”
The show will open Friday and be up through Nov. 29 at The Artery, 207 G St. Featured artists are Lucy B. Della Rosa, Chris Dewees, Lisa Erskine, Julia Kehew, Marjan Kluepfel, Robin Lynde, Sharon McCallum, Vicki Plutchok, Jan Schubert, Connie Taxiera and Sara Helen Yost.
They will be honored at a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, as part of the Second Friday ArtAbout.
Della Rosa offers hand-knit/felted hats that foil chilly winds. Dewees places his striking fish prints on chic silk scarves. Erskine uses angora, alpaca, mohair and wool for hand-spun shawls, blankets, scarves and rugs. Her color palette ranges from black and white and gray to blue, brown and soft sage.
Kehew’s unique hats add pizzas to wardrobes. Kluepfel hand-dyes elegant silk/rayon ponchos. Lynde warms winter weather with organic Merino wool blankets using her snowflake and bamboo designs.
McCallum creates hand-woven scarves as well as knitted gloves and hats. Schubert’s felted wool paintings and table runners are unique, and Taxiera’s decorative, stitched fabric leaves are always popular.
Yost uses new and recycled fabrics for her vests and jackets. She mixes the textures of fleece, corduroy, flannel and denim for one-of-a-kind looks.
