Figurative, still life and landscape oil paintings are just part of Marie-Therese Brown’s fourth show at The Artery, which runs Friday, Sept. 7, through Tuesday, Oct. 2.
She is showing an eclectic mix of beach and farm scenes from her many travels to Santa Barbara and the Santa Ynez Valley, as well as the familiar scenery of Yolo County, including flowers from her back yard.
Recently the University of California Natural Reserve System selected one of Brown’s paintings of the Sedgwick Reserve in Santa Barbara for publication in a book featuring all 38 UC Reserves. Brown’s painting of the Sedgwick reserve in Santa Barbara can be seen during the show and in the forthcoming September book.
Whenever she leaves home, Brown takes her paints to record places that would otherwise fade from memory. She loves plein air painting and has enjoyed teaching a plein air class for the Crocker Museum the past two years.
The reception for Brown coincides with the Davis Second Friday ArtAbout on Sept. 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Artery, 207 G St., Davis. The Artery is open seven days a week, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. and Friday until 9 p.m.
