Baroque gala at Davis Community Church

The Mother Lode Friends of Music — the classical music performance society serving the central foothills — and Davis Community Church Concert Series present a gala concert of Baroque choral music at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Davis Community Church, 412 C St. in Davis.

The concert includes cantatas by Telemann and Buxtehude, the chorus “The many rend the sky” from “Alexander’s Feast” by Handel and the “Mass in F” of Bach.

Joining forces for the event will be four soloists, the Davis Community Church Choir, a Baroque instrumental ensemble of strings and winds with Baroque piccolo trumpet, flugelhorns and organ. Henrik Jul Hansen is the conductor.

Vocal soloists include mezzo-soprano Tania Mannion of Davis, Madeline Biddle Bersamina — a leading soprano in the Seattle area who returns to her home town of Sutter Creek, tenor Jonathan Smucker and bass-baritone Paul Murray, both prominent opera and oratorio performers from the San Francisco Bay Area. David Deffner is the organist and choir director.

The $10 suggested donation supports the Davis Community Church Concert Series as well as local and international charitable organizations. Please call 530-753-2894 for more information.
