Experience a two-day festival filled with poetry readings and painting improvisation set to the rhythm of live jazz as the John Natsoulas Center for the Arts plays host to the sixth annual Jazz and Beat Festival: Beyond the Beat on Friday and Saturday.
This is an opportunity for attendees to experience exclusive performances and a thorough collection of Beat art, and later meet world-renowned poets, jazz musicians and painters of the Beat Generation.
The Linda Bair Dance Company will perform from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, followed by the annual Jack Kerouac poetry competition with live music with the Tony Passarell Trio.
On Saturday, there will be two stages of live music with 12 bands and performance painters. There will be a public mural and crafts for the kids. Saturday evening features jazz legend Roscoe Williams, followed by performance painter Nancy Ostrovsky. The evening ends with a midnight roof party at the gallery, 521 First St. in downtown Davis.
