Blue Blazes will open the 2014 Picnic in the Park concert season with its tasty blend of old-time rock and roll, rockabilly and blues on Wednesday, March 19. The market is open in Central Park, Fourth and C streets, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. and music runs from 5 p.m. until dark.

Blue Blazes — which includes Dave Atkinson on lead guitar and vocals, Chuck O’Bear on drums and vocals and Gary Meyers on bass and vocals — covers a wide variety of music from Stray Cats to Willie Dixon. All Picnic in the Park music is sponsored by the Davis Food Co-op.

Bring your own picnic or buy dinner at the food fair, where there is a wide array of choices. Members of Soroptimist International of Davis will pour local beer and wine to raise money for local charities.

Children’s entertainment includes Central Park’s bicycle-powered carousel, Rocknasium’s climbing structure, bounce houses, face-painting and balloon-maker Dilly Dally the Clown.

Spring produce — asparagus, greens, snap peas, lettuces and strawberries — plus local eggs, honey and meat fill the market, with craft booths at the north end.

For more information, call 530-756-1695 or visit www.davisfarmersmarket.org to see the music schedule for the entire Picnic in the Park season, which continues every Wednesday evening through October.
