Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen, a fast-rising bluegrass band based in Virginia, will appear at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at The Palms Playhouse, 13 Main St., in Winters. Northern California’s Mountain Laurel Duet will open the show. Tickets are $20.
Solivan is a mandolinist and talented vocalist making big waves nationally these days, and even more so since the recent release of “On The Edge” (Compass Records). His original music climbed to the tops of bluegrass charts coast to coast and his band is featured at major music festivals across the country.
Solivan’s band, Dirty Kitchen, is anchored by Dan Booth on the doghouse bass, infused with Mike Munford’s five-string banjo technique and peppered with fiery guitar solos from Chris Luquette.
Opening the show are regional bluegrass favorites Kathy Barwick and Pete Siegfried, sometimes known as the Mountain Laurel Duet. Barwick (guitar, dobro, harmony vocals) and Siegfried (mandolin, guitar, lead vocals) both play in Mountain Laurel and as the duo play folk and bluegrass songs, including original songs, and material from the repertoires of the Stanley Brothers, Bill Monroe, Jim & Jesse, Tom Paxton, Buddy and Julie Miller, and lots more.
Tickets are available at Armadillo Music in Davis, Watermelon Music in Woodland, Pacific Ace Hardware in Winters and at the door if not sold out. For more information, visit palmsplayhouse.com, dirtykitchenband.com and kathybarwick.net.
