“Amazing Grace,” a 2006 film directed by Michael Apted, will be screened Friday night at International House, Davis, as part of the International Film Series. There is no charge, but donations are gratefully accepted to help cover the cost of the DVD rental, facilities use, supplies and refreshments that are served at 7:30 p.m. The film begins promptly at 8 p.m. I-House is at 10 College Park.

For decades, William Wilberforce was the British Parliament’s prime mover in the battle to abolish the slave trade (the bill was passed in 1807). With Ioan Gruffudd as Wilberforce, “Amazing Grace” depicts his passionate efforts to stand up for what was right against formidable odds in the late 1700s.

DHS Madrigal auditions coming up

Audition applications for the Davis High School Madrigal Choir must be postmarked by Friday, organizers announce. A pre-audition meeting is set for 4 p.m. Thursday, March 17, in room PA-8 at the DHS Instructional Performing Arts Building to answer any questions. Attendance is optional.

Auditions will take place during the week of March 21. All students will complete the sight singing part of the audition on March 21 and will have a scheduled audition to follow, between 4 and 9 p.m. March 21 and 22 and 3 and 9 p.m. March 23. Callbacks will follow later that week.

Taste wine at the Davis Food Co-op

The Davis Food Co-op, 620 G St. in downtown Davis, will host a tasting of top-notch French wines from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. The cost is $1 per taste, and profits benefit One Farm at a Time.

One Farm at a Time raises the funds and awareness needed to ensure the sustainability of local family farms for future generations. Current efforts are focused on establishing an agricultural easement that will protect Good Humus Produce in the Capay Valley as an organic farm into perpetuity.

DMTC presents ‘Stuart Little’

The Davis Musical Theatre Company’s Young Performers Theater will present “Stuart Little,” the saga of an intrepid 7-year-old mouse who sets out on the adventure of a lifetime, opening Saturday and continuing through Sunday, March 27, at the DMTC Performing Arts Center, 607 Peña Drive in Davis.

Performances are at 2:15 p.m. Saturdays throughout March, with additional performances at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, March 12; 7 p.m. Saturday, March 26; and 2:15 p.m. Sunday, March 27.

The play is directed by Karen Mo with musical direction by Eimi Taormina and choreography by Christina Rae. Tickets are $7 for all ages and are available online at http://www.dmtc.org.

Indian classical fusion concert set

The Nada Brahma Music Ensemble will perform Indian classical fusion music from 8 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Davis Holistic Health Center, 1403 Fifth St., Suite B, in Davis.

Original ragas (melody forms) and talas (rhythmic cycles) are 100 percent improvised. The ensemble’s creator, Matthew Grasso, has developed his own style — a synthesis of classical guitar, sarod, and south Indian violin — and performs on a 25-string guitar with percussionist Alex Jenkins on traditional tabla of North India. The music is cyclical with complex patterns and shifting shades of intensity.

A donation of $10 to $20 will be asked at the door.
