Celebrate music, art and oils at RootStock

By From page A11 | October 30, 2013

RootStock will offer a free performance featuring a collaborating group of musicians known as The Flatlander Sound Crew from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1.

This selected group of singers, songwriters and musicians travel and perform together throughout Yolo County. The FSC was formed to showcase local musicians and their talent. Many of the performers write their own music, much of which was inspired by their life and history in Yolo County and the surrounding areas.

The celebration continues from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, with art and olive oil. Buckeye Farms olive oil producers David Neilson and his wife Sheri Greaves Neilson will be at RootStock, 22 Main St. in Winters, offering a tasting of their oil and blueberry balsamic and showcasing Greaves’ award-winning art.

The Neilsons found that the hilly acreage along Buckeye Creek, along with its Arbuckle gravelly loam soil, and their excellent surface water and climate, was ideal for a traditional olive grove. They chose old-world Italian and Spanish varietals. These particular varieties are also high in polyphenols (antioxidants) with full, rich flavors and aromas.
