The Center for Spiritual Living, which meets at 1715 Anderson Road in Davis, presents a special musical service featuring vocalist Carol Manson and pianist Reggie Graham at noon Sunday. Manson and Graham will present “Divine Intuition,” featuring song, poetry, spoken word, dance and other spiritual offerings.
This musical service is free to the public, although love offerings are always appreciated.
Manson says that even though she didn’t recognize it at first, everything in her life has prepared her for a song ministry. Beginning with playing the violin in grammar school, she went on to sing in choirs at Berkeley High School. After a career as a state bureaucrat she finally let her voice soar when she again joined a choir and recorded a CD, “All Is Well.”
She went on to win the ninth Independent Music Award VOX Pop Award for the single “Take My Hand, Precious Lord.” She is working on her next CD, “With A Child’s Heart,” and a jazz tribute honoring Abbey Lincoln. Manson will be touring the Pacific Northwest this fall. For more information, visit wwwcarolmanson.com.
Graham’s musical career began in Sacramento but blossomed in the Bay Area as an organist in jazz legend Jon Hendricks’ production, “The Evolution of the Blues.” He then joined Casablanca recording artist Jimmy Goins’ band as a keyboardist and toured internationally with the group.
As the leader of The Reggie Graham Trio/Quartet, he performed for President Clinton, and shared concerts with jazz icons Dizzy Gillespie, George Benson, The Duke Ellington Orchestra and the Charlie Hunter Trio.
Graham has been a music professor at Sacramento City College for 12 years and has taught piano privately for more than 15 years. As a member of the award-winning Sacramento State Jazz Ensemble, he was twice honored as outstanding soloist at the Reno Jazz Festival.
