Chamber singers perform at church

By
March 10, 2011 |

The 29-voice chamber choir on tour from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., will perform a concert of vocal music at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at the Episcopal Church of St. Martin, 630 Hawthorn Lane, Davis. In lieu of tickets, a free-will offering will be suggested.

The Chamber Singers, conducted by Scott Tuomi, have toured nationally and internationally. They have been featured at various music festivals and conferences and have gained a reputation for musical excellence. Sunday’s program will feature choral works ranging from J.S. Bach and early music from Monteverdi to works by contemporary composers Eric Whitacre and Z. Randall Stroop.

Tuomi is well-known throughout the Pacific Northwest as a choral director and adjudicator, tenor soloist and vocal instructor. In his 23 years at Paific University, he has led choir tours to Europe, New York, Hawaii and throughout the Pacific Northwest. He is the son-in-law of Shipley and Dick Walters of Davis.

Davis marks the third stop on the Chamber Singers’ tour, en route from concerts in Roseburg and Medford, Ore. Tuomi and the Chamber Singers will present workshops with choirs from Davis schools on Monday, March  21, and then continue their tour to Napa, Oakland and San Francisco.
