The Christmas Jug Band — “the kings of 100 percent acoustic folk-skiffle-swing holiday high jinks” — will bring their offbeat holiday cheer to The Palms Playhouse, 13 Main St. in Winters, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18.
The band — which features Northern California musicians Paul Rogers (of Those Darn Accordions), Austin de Lone (Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, Bill Kirchen) and Tim Eschilman (Commander Cody Band) — performs original holiday numbers, parodies of unlikely classics (“Santa!” to the tune of “Gloria”), and raucous jugbandizations of seasonal favorites.
Together for more than 20 years, The Christmas Jug Band’s material ranges from holiday pop and jazz classics such as “Winter Wonderland” and “Merry Christmas, Baby” to more offbeat tunes such as “Santa Lost a Ho,” “Daddy’s Drinkin’ Up Our Christmas,” “Santa Claus Wants Some Lovin’,” “Somebody Stole My Santa Claus Suit” and “Santa Don’t Do It,” a song campaigning that Santa not shave off his beard even though Mrs. Claus wants him to.
Tickets are $20 and are available at Armadillo Music in Davis, Watermelon Music in Woodland, Pacific Ace Hardware in Winters and at the door if not sold out. For more information, visit palmsplayhouse.com and christmasjugband.com.
