Church concert series continues

By May 4, 2011

Davis Community Church will present two concerts in May as part of a yearlong series.

The Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 15. The concert, “One for the Road,” will feature road tunes including “Route 66,” “Ease on Down the Road” (from “The Wiz”), “Chattanooga Choo-Choo” and “Homeward Bound.”

The Sacramento Gay Men’s Chorus was founded as a singing group that aimed to foster a sense of community and provide support for gays and lesbians in the Sacramento area. Over the past 25 years, the chorus has become an integral part of the Sacramento arts community. The chorus strives for musical excellence and generally packs the house at each performance.

On Sunday, May 22, the church will present “The A Cappella Tradition,” including Gregorian chant, anthems from Renaissance to the 20th century as well as spirituals. The music will be performed by the Davis Community Church Chancel and Chamber Choirs under the direction of David L. Deffner. The concert will begin at 9:45 a.m.

Both concerts will be presented in the DCC sanctuary at Fourth and C streets in downtown Davis. A $10 donation is suggested and supports the concert series as well as local and international charities. For more information, call (530) 753-2894.
