Austin-based singer and songwriter Slaid Cleaves will return for a concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at The Palms Playhouse, 13 Main St. in Winters.
Cleaves weaves the musical traditions of his native Maine and adopted hometown of Austin, Texas. With a rich, slightly dusty baritone voice, Cleaves unerringly finds the right vocal approach to each song.
From the rollicking requiem of “New Year’s Day” to the weary perseverance of “Drinkin’ Days” and “Broke Down” to the lilting bounce of “Horses,” he infuses every song with the right emotional touch in a way that is effective and never feels contrived.
Cleaves will be accompanied by Mississippi-bred and Austin-based guitarist Scrappy Jud Newcomb at Thursday’s show.
Tickets are $20 and are available at Armadillo Music in Davis, Watermelon Music in Woodland, Pacific Ace Hardware in Winters and at the door if not sold out. For more information, visit palmsplayhouse.com and slaidcleaves.com.
