Sacramento Ballet’s ‘Nutcracker’ returns for December run

By From page A11 | December 12, 2012

Best-known and most beloved of all Sacramento Ballet productions, choreographer Ron Cunningham’s “The Nutcracker” has been seen by hundreds of thousands of people, many of whom return year after year to enjoy the colorful costumes, imaginative sets and dramatic snow scene. The images of young Clara battling the Giant Mouse King, being saved by her Nutcracker Prince, and then journeying to the magical Snowflake Forest and Kingdom of the Sweets have become a part of our culture.

Joining the area’s only professional ballet company in this annual production are more than 500 youngsters from throughout the region who take their first “leap” into the world of performing arts with the Sacramento Ballet. This year marks Cunningham’s 25th season at the helm of Sacramento Ballet, and this year’s production opens Friday and continues through Dec. 23. Tickets are $18-$75, through tickets.com, sacramentoboxoffice.com, sacballet.org or 888-583-6046.
