The Davis Chorale is settling in for lots of practice in advance of upcoming performances.

Rehearsals begin Monday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m. at Davis Community Church, 412 C St. Prospective choir members are encouraged to contact artistic director Alison Skinner for information and an audition appointment.

The Chorale recently hired Garrett Rigsby as an assistant director. He is a UC Davis graduate student in conducting and will lead rehearsals in early 2015, when Skinner will be on maternity leave.

Rigsby will prepare the Chorale to join the UCD Alumni Chorus and Orchestra on March 8 in a performance of Vaughan Williams’ “Serenade to Music,” Felix Mendelsohn’s Verleih’ uns Frieden and Herbert Howells’ Hymnus Paradisi.

First, however, the choir will work on Christmas music, which will be performed twice at 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Davis Methodist Church, 1620n Anderson Road.

The Davis Children’s Chorale and a brass choir will join in the Christmas performances.

The final concert of the season, on June 8 at Brunelle Hall, will feature works by Bach, Haydn, Gjeilo, Schuetz, Rachmaninoff and Bruckner.
