Saxophonist and composer Chris Clark — a 2005 graduate of Davis High School — will return for a concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Stonegate Contry Club, 919 Lake Blvd.

Clark, who now lives on the East Coast, visits Davis as part of a tour with his trio, which also includes bassist Zack Teran and drummer Jesus Vega, who also played on “Cedar Wisely,” a jazz album by the Chris Clark Quintet that was released earlier this year on the Songlines label.

Clark explained that he has played with Teran and Vega on a frequent basis for two years as a trio while Clark was in grad school at the University of Nevada, Reno.

“For our concert in Davis, we will be playing several of the modern jazz tunes from ‘Cedar Wisely,’ in addition to original repertoire by Teran and Vega and a couple of covers of tunes by pop artists Bjork and Tool,” Clark said.

“As a trio, we lean more towards the style of the tracks ‘Inside the Gloves’ and ‘Cage Factor’ from ‘Cedar Wisely,’ ” Clark added. “The music is more high-energy and less chamber-oriented.

“I’m looking forward to playing again in my hometown,” Clark said. “I don’t think I’ve played in Davis since my high school days.”

Tickets for the July 11 concert at $10 general, $5 Stonegate members. For information, go to cclarkmusic.com, or call 530-756-2285.
