Deffner plays organ concert March 20

The Davis Community Church Concert Series for 2011 continues Sunday, March 20, with an organ recital, “Taste of Germany, Taste of France,” to be presented by David L. Deffner. He will play two works by the great German master Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by a variety of French works, from a lullaby to a battle march to a fiery toccata.

Deffner is a church organist who has performed with the Sacramento Symphony Orchestra, the Camellia Symphony, the Sacramento Area Bach Festival and the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra.He teaches at American River College and is director of music at Davis Community Church.

He received his doctorate in church music from Northwestern University and has studied organ with Karel Paukert, Philip Gehring and Wolfgang Rübsam.

The concert begins at 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary at 412 C St. in downtown Davis. The suggested donation of $10 supports the Davis Community Church Concert Series as well as local and international charitable organizations.
