The Davis Musical Theatre Company announces auditions for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical “Cats.”
Auditions will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday April 21, and Monday, April 22. Callbacks will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23.
The show is directed by Steve Isaacson, with choreography by Pam Lourentzos. All auditions and performances are at DMTC’s Performing Arts Center, 607 Peña Drive. Please bring a prepared song — not from the show; an accompanist will be provided. No taped music or a cappella please.
“The opportunity to produce ‘Cats’ fell into our lap,” co-producer Steve Isaacson said. “So with that, we replaced ‘Candide’ and are producing ‘Cats’ instead.”
All tickets for “Candide” will be honored for “Cats.”
One of the longest-running shows in Broadway history — performed more than 7,400 times on Broadway and countless times around the world — “Cats” features some of Webber’s best music, including “Mr. Mistoffolees” and “Memory.”
All roles are open, and dancers as well as singers are strongly encouraged to audition. There will be roles for strong dancers as well as movers and singers. For character descriptions, visit dmtc.org/mainstageauditions.html.
Webber’s “Cats” is based on “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” by T.S. Eliot. The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as “the Jellicle choice” and decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life.
Performance dates for “Cats” will be June 21-July 14.
