The Davis Musical Theatre Company and the Yolo County Food Bank are teaming up this holiday season to help the hungry.

Theatergoers will receive half-off a general price ticket to see DMTC’s Broadway production of “A Christmas Carol” when they bring in four or more cans of food for the Food Bank of Yolo County. The offer is valid for walk-ups only on Fridays, Nov. 16-Dec. 7.

Most needed items are tuna and canned meats, canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned or dry beans, canned soup, canned or boxed meals, cereal, fruit juice, rice, pasta, peanut butter and shelf-stable milk.

With a nod to nutrition, the Food Bank prefers 100 percent fruit juices, low-sodium soups and whole grains.

To ensure food safety, the Food Bank cannot accept rusty or unlabeled cans, noncommercial canned or packaged items, perishable items, expired items, homemade items, alcoholic beverages or mixes, open or used items and food packaged in glass.

This production of “A Christmas Carol,” is a retelling of the Charles Dickens story with a Broadway twist. The show is directed and choreographed by DMTC co-producer Jan Isaacson, with musical direction by Chris Congdon.

The show opens Friday at the DMTC Performing Arts Center, 607 Peña Drive, and runs through Sunday, Dec. 9, at 8:15 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2:15 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $18 general and $16 for students and seniors.
