Enjoy an evening at Coconut Grove

By February 18, 2011

Local residents can recapture the magic of the legendary Coconut Grove nightclub as they listen to music of the golden age of jazz and swing at an upcoming fundraiser for the Davis High School Bands.

Appetizers, desserts and “mocktails” will be served beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 12, in the Emerson Junior High School Indoor Commons, 2121 Calaveras Ave. The annual event is sponsored by the Davis High School Band Boosters.

This full evening of jazz entertainment will feature performances by the Emerson and Harper Junior High Jazz Bands, Celia Cottle’s J Street Jazz Cats, Sax by Popular Demand and Crazy Eights, and will be capped off by the award-winning Davis High School Jazz Band. Silent auction items will also be available.

Reservation forms and more information can be found at the DHS Band Boosters website, http://groups.dcn.org/dhsbandboosters. Tickets are $25 and will be available at the door. Students are $10 and children under 5 are free. Advance reservations are recommended.

Proceeds will support the bands’ upcoming trip to Victoria, British Columbia, where they will perform at the Victoria Days celebration.
