By From page A11 | April 23, 2013

Two free lunchtime readings are planned from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays on the Wyatt Deck in the UC Davis Arboretum. Parking is available for $7 in Visitor Lot 5, at Old Davis Road and Arboretum Drive.

On Thursday, April 25, Folsom resident Mariam Ahmed, who studied English literature as an undergraduate at UCD, will read her work. She enjoys organizing poetry slams and open mic nights featuring local artists, poets and musicians.

In addition to teaching creative writing to elementary school students in Folsom and Davis, she has edited and published a chapbook of short stories written by children under her cause, Stories ETC. (Equality Through Creativity).

Zach Watkins will read Thursday, May 30. A composer and poet living in Sacramento, Watkins graduated from Cal State Hayward with a bachelor’s degree in music and works for the UCD Food Stamp Nutrition Program.
