Hear a ‘local treasure’ perform Friday

By July 28, 2011

Local residents will have an opportunity to hear a “local treasure,” Clarence Van Hook, perform from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at RootStock, 22 Main St. in downtown Winters. Van Hook will play authentic American music with J. Cedar, a veteran songwriter and guitarist.

More than 40 years ago, Van Hook was performing at concerts, festivals, coffeehouses and nightclubs with artists such as K.C. Douglas and Lightning Hopkins. Today, he works on his ranch in Guinda and plays with a group of musicians for appreciative audiences locally and in the Bay Area.

While known best as a bluesman, his repertoire now embraces country, rural blues and gospel.

Julie LePla Winery will do a special barrel tasting during the performance of her 2010 Zinfandel.
