The Gene Taylor Blues Band featuring Dave Alvin plays a potent and propulsive combination of roots rock, boogie-woogie, blues and rockabilly based around Taylor’s piano and Alvin’s guitar. The quartet will perform at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at The Palms Playhouse, 13 Main St. in Winters.
Taylor is an extraordinary blues and boogie-woogie piano player. He started playing with big-name bluesmen while still in high school, and then was the pianist for the iconic roots rock band The Blasters for about five years in the early 1980s. Recently, Taylor completed a 13-year stint with The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
The Gene Taylor Blues Band features Taylor on piano and vocals, his fellow Blasters alum Alvin on guitar and vocals, Greg Boaz on bass and Steve Mugalian on drums.
Tickets are $20 and are available in advance at Armadillo Music in Davis, Watermelon Music in Woodland, Pacific Ace Hardware in Winters and at the door if not sold out. For more information, visit palmsplayhouse.com and gene-taylor.com.
