Julie & the Jukes bring their classic blues to Picnic in the Park on Wednesday, Oct. 23, to the Davis Farmers Market in Central Park, Third and C streets in Davis.
This local band – which features Julia Simon, bass and vocals; Stan Powell, harmonica; Dan Callnon, drums; Charles Oriel, guitar and vocals — plays a mix of the classic Chicago blues of Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf, the Memphis sounds of B.B. King, the Texas style of Freddie King, and the classic women’s blues of Bessie Smith and Ida Cox.
Music starts at 5 p.m. and is sponsored by the Davis Food Co-op.
The market is open from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. There’s produce aplenty, including apples, pears, grapes, pomegranates, persimmons, potatoes, onions, squash and more. In addition, there are local eggs, honey, cheeses and wine.
Bring a picnic from home or buy dinner from one of the many vendors. Davis Soroptimists will pour Sudwerk beer and local wine, with proceeds going to local charities.
Children’s entertainment includes Central Park’s bicycle-powered carousel, Rocknasium’s climbing structure, bounce houses, face-painting, pony rides by Greenwich Acres and balloon-maker Dilly Dally the Clown.
