Latin rhythms at Performers’ Circle

By February 22, 2011

The Village Homes Performers Circle will meet from 7:15 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Village Homes Community Center, 2661 Portage Bay East in Davis. This free event features performers of all levels and creative expressions, and takes place the fourth Monday of each month.

Sign-up performances are from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. and featured acts perform from 8:30 to 9 p.m.

Mondays featured act, Polizontes, will perform selected songs from countries throughout Latin America. Polizontes and friends will take listeners on an adventure of Latin American rhythmic traditions from chacarera and milonga, to Brazilian percussion, to nuevacancion tunes. The repertoire includes songs in Spanish, Portuguese and English.

Polizontes is a musical trio of longtime friends Maria Fernanda Acuña of Venezuela (cuatro, percussion, and vocals), Quique Cruz of Chile (guitar, vocals and Andean flute) and Scarlet Huber of Brazil (vocals).
