The Davis Community Gallery will host an exhibit of oil paintings by Winters artist Jaime Montiel through May 3 at the gallery inside the Davis Community Clinic, 2051 John Jones Road. There is an artists’ reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15.
Montiel was born in Brooks and grew up in Winters. The son of Mexican immigrants, he has spent most of his life in Northern California. He received a bachelor’s degree in studio art from UC Davis and a master’s of fine arts in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design. His paintings and prints have been exhibited nationally.
He has lectured in the Chicano studies department at UCD where he taught silk-screen printing and mural painting workshops. Montiel lives and operates his studio in Winters. He is also the current artist-in-residence at Taller Arte del Nuevo Amanecer in Woodland, where he helps to conduct community silk-screen printing workshops.
