Barry “The Fish” Melton of Country Joe and The Fish joined Canned Heat during Saturday’s free Whole Earth Festival on the UC Davis Quad. The
celebrated band from Woodstock rocked for nearly two hours, including two encores. Whole Earth co-chair Brett Lemke was responsible for procuring Canned Heat, whose song “Going Up the Country” topped the charts during the first Whole Earth Festival in 1969 and was the unofficial theme of the Woodstock concert film.
